Elite Fastpitch Inc. Newsletter

Subject: Elite Fastpitch School News

Date: 4/23/11

April Edition 2

Objective- To inform the Elite Fastpitch families of pertinent Fastpitch information to produce the highest quality player possible.

Coach’s Message- Pitchers, if you study your competition or just pay attention to the opposing team’s line up, pitch to the situation (and not try to strike everyone out), you’ll be successful this year. Remember, where you throw it has more impact than what you throw. Make quality pitches, each with an objective. If you were paying attention all year, you know exactly what I just said. If you have additional info, contact Tom Besser at elitefp@aol.com.

Student News-

Brianna Sandone, 2011, has verbally committed to Stevens Institute of Technology at Hoboken. Taylor August, 2012, St. John Vianney, has verbally committed to Fairfield. These two students represent out 29th and 30th students of this school year to be recruited by a college team.

Elite Fastpitch’s pitchers have a good start on College level awards. As the college season progresses, I’ll keep you updated. These are the Elite of the Elite. These numbers are as of 10:00 pm, Thursday 4/21/2011 (College Week #6) I’ll keep you updated.

We will shoot your video (whatever the task is) and completely break it down. We’ll tell you what’s right and what’s wrong with that motion. We’ll take the things that are incorrect and give you the specific drills that will improve that motion. We’ll give you real examples of the correct motion for your comparison. We’re getting personal to improve you faster. To get this started, e-mail me at elitefp@aol.com and we’ll put you on the schedule.

THIS MAKES NORMAL PRIVATE INSTRUCTION OBSOLETE!!!!!!!!

Recruiting- Skills Video (Attention Sophomores & Juniors) – Lisa is setting up her spring shoot schedule now. We’ll shoot teams on Sundays and small groups and individuals all other days. Only Elite & Digital Image Plus has the experience level of over 3300 Skills Videos. DO NOT let an inexperienced person do this for you it could cost you over $150,000 in scholarships. Elite Fastpitch does ONLY Fastpitch Skills Video’s and that makes our relationship with much of the college coaching ranks a strong one. No one, no company can capture Fastpitch motion like Elite Fastpitch Inc. and Digital Image Plus.

Recruiting- Player Profiles (Attention All Serious Pitchers– I want you to go to my website at www.elitefastpitch.com, then to College Recruiting, then to 2011 Player Profiles or any year for that matter. We are now offering these at the dirt cheap price of $25.00 per year maintenance charge. These sites are password protected and self-administered. If you don’t have one… YOU ARE CRAZY!!! March Edition – 1

Objective- To inform the Elite Fastpitch families of pertinent Fastpitch information to produce the highest quality player possible.

Coach’s Message- Pitch calling (Part #2 The Preliminaries) – First we have to establish a few rules (concepts) to our pitch calling philosophy. General Planning- We need a general game plan going into each week, each day and each game, it may need to be modified if events dictate but have a plan of how you want to use your pitchers. Where possible determine which pitchers for which games. Brackett play and the Elimination Round are a different selection process. Pre-Game- The right pitcher for the right job, big power hitting teams, attack with a Dropball pitcher. Speed teams, short game teams, attack with pitcher that defend their position and have stuff they can throw up in the zone (Riseball if possible, screwballs up & high fastballs). The warm-up is a good time and place for the Pitching coach to get a look at the selected pitchers and speak to catchers and pitchers about the game plan. Insure the pitches that you want to attack most with are the right velocity, hitting the spots and moving properly. Game Time- More rules- We need to get ahead in the count & stay ahead in the count. Always throw 2 of the first 3 pitches in the strike zone. The idea is to keep the pressure on the batter and off the pitcher. Once that’s accomplished, give them nothing good to hit (more to follow on that). Next Edition, the 5 step process can guide the pitch caller to a logical selection of each pitch. Attack power down, speed up, slow hands in with speed and fast hands away with soft pitches (much more on this next edition. For an in depth course on Pitch Calling, contact Tom Besser at elitefp@aol.com for my April 4th Team Pitching Coach Course.

Student News-

At Elite we say it this way, “Brittany O’Donnell’s Notre Dame” was selected #1 in the Big East’s Pre-Season Coaches Poll this year.

Correction- Two editions ago I incorrectly called Valerie Cassell’s choice of college a D2 school. The College of Charleston is a NCAA D1 high level softball program. Sorry Val…..

Rider University- Two Elite students have distinguished themselves by being 2 of the Top 5 pitchers in the MAAC. Both Krysti Maronski #1 & #4 Rachael Matreale both Rider U pitchers are making news. Krysti Maronski was selected Pitcher of Week #2 for the MAAC. Rachael Matreale won that award 3 times last year.

University of South Florida- Capri Catalano beat the Dutch National Team 2-1 in a complete game decision on 3/8/11.

Kaili Mathews 2011 of Riverside HS has verbally committed to pitch next year for Penn State (Abington).

Training- Elite Fastpitch Inc. Winter Training- If you have not registered yet, hurry up, spring is coming fast. Contact elitefp@aol.com for more info.

Session #5- For more info go to www.elitefastpitch.com, then Training with Elite, then to How to Register. This session is in progress now in Deptford on Wednesday’s only.

Private Pitching Lessons- For more info go to www.elitefastpitch.com, then Training with Elite, then to Private Instruction. Note- I am looking for (inexpensive) space in the South Jersey areas, indoor or outdoor, any help appreciated. Elite Fastpitch Inc. Newsletter – January 2011

Objective- To inform the Elite Fastpitch families of pertinent Fastpitch information to produce the highest quality player possible.

Coaches Message- It’s a new year! As I write this message there are 36 days until High School softball starts and colleges are starting in a week. If you’ve been in every week and working hard, you are as ready as you can be. If not, there is no cramming for the coming test. So much of life is like that; some of the most important things in life take long term preparation. From the stand point of the part of your life that I’m interested in (your softball career), your S.A.T. test is like that, your college recruiting is like that, and correct and effective training is like that. If you look at all that is around you, you’ll find there are people that “make things happen”, there are people that “let things happen” and there are people that “wonder what just happened”. In this game, like so many things in life, you may not know what you don’t know. That’s what makes this process so hard. It’s hard to be someone that makes things happen without a long term objective that is supported by a series of yearly and short term objectives.

Every year I watch the cycle repeat. It’s late January, review our students that committed in their junior year or who signed early in their senior year. They did it right, they made it happen and generally got pretty much what they dreamed of. They were either such good athletes they couldn’t miss or they worked a very good plan. We still have students that are getting recruited but they are late, probably not what they dreamed of but hey, they let things happen and they did and it worked out. Now, we are down to those that are still out there, they are late, they see others being recruited and they are wondering what happened. Ironically, these are some of my best pitchers. All their life they’ve known they were a little better than the rest and were sure the colleges would beat a path to them. They may not have paid enough attention to grades or S.A.T., they may not have given themselves enough or proper exposure, they may have taken some of the incredible bad advice that gets spread through the bleachers at games by fans and other parents that want to sound important (neither party knowing what they don’t know) or were too shy to write to college coaches throughout their junior year. Each year for me, exciting, intense and at the end, all too often, sad that I couldn’t convince the remaining few of how it’s done.

Student News- The NFCA has selected three Elite Fastpitch college players to their All-Academic Team. Allison Greaney (Ithaca), Kristin Durborow (Centenary) and Erika Knorr (Rowan) were all selected. Several Elite students moved into the 60 mph club, Brittany Scott of Buena HS (2012) and the 18&U Outlaws and one of our youngest ever Haley Hulitt (2017) of West Cumberland LL and the 14&U SJ Rage both hit the magic # this week. Kelly Lupton (2012) of Absegami H.S. joined the very prestigious 65 MPH Club when she topped out at 66.

Training- Elite Fastpitch Inc. Winter Training- Space at some locations & some classes is available. If you have not registered yet, hurry up, spring is coming fast. Contact elitefp@aol.com for more info.

Session #5- For more info go to www.elitefastpitch.com, then Training with Elite, then to How to Register.

Personalized Digital Video Training Program is a great addition to our classroom training. You now have the “option” of PERSONALIZING the process.

Training- Elite Fastpitch Inc. Spring Training- We have a variety of spring training options for both coaches and players.

Team Pitching Coach Clinic- For more info go to www.elitefastpitch.com, then Training with Elite, then to Team Pitch Calling Clinic.

Advanced Catcher Clinic- For more info go to www.elitefastpitch.com, then Training with Elite, then to Advanced Catchers Clinic.

Team Short Game Coach Clinic- For more info go to www.elitefastpitch.com, then Training with Elite, then to Short Game Clinic.

Training- Elite Fastpitch Inc. Spring & Summer Training- Elite’s summer schedule is still developing. I have not confirmed all requests to work several camps & clinics which may punch several holes in our Private Lesson schedule.

Private Pitching Lessons- For more info go to www.elitefastpitch.com, then Training with Elite, then to Private Instruction. Note- I am looking space in the Central & South Jersey areas, indoor or outdoor, any help appreciated.

College Camps & Clinics- These are camps Elite supports-

Temple University- http://www.owlsports.com/documents/2011/1/21/2011_Temple_Softball_Clinic_Broachure.pdf

Monmouth University- http://www.gomuhawks.com//pdf8/729580.pdf

Rider University-

Recruiting- Skills Video (Attention Sophomores & Juniors) – Lisa is setting up her spring shoot schedule now. We’ll shoot teams on Sundays and small groups and individuals all other days. For my kids, and their team members (all positions), this is a critical step in the recruiting process. You are risking a lot if Elite is not doing your video. Anyone can point a video camera…….

For more information e-mail bess144@aol.com.

Guest Players- Guest Pitcher Pool. Its purpose is to identify pitchers that want to guest for other teams when not playing for their normal team. So pitchers, e-mail in your contact info and I’ll store it here. Coaches, let me know what you need and I’ll do my best to link you up.
